Wedoany.com Report-Jun 13, Zelestra has officially brought Peru’s largest solar power plant, the 300MWdc San Martín facility, into full operation. Located in the La Joya district of Arequipa, the plant was completed in less than 18 months by Zelestra’s internal engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) team.
San Martín is expected to generate approximately 830GWh of electricity annually. This output is enough to supply power to over 440,000 homes and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 166,000 tonnes each year. During peak construction, the project supported 900 jobs and was delivered both on schedule and within budget.
Electricity from the San Martín plant is being sold to Kallpa Generación under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), supporting the utility’s efforts to diversify its energy sources in Peru and enhance reliability through clean energy.
Leo Moreno, CEO of Zelestra, stated: “The successful delivery of San Martín reinforces our commitment to a customer-first approach. By leveraging our global expertise in engineering, procurement, and construction, we can successfully co-build tailored solutions that bring projects to life on time and on budget.” He added: “We are proud to see the most ambitious solar project in Peru now fully operational, and we look forward to a long-term partnership with Kallpa in delivering clean, reliable energy for years to come.”
Zelestra currently has over 7GW of solar and battery storage capacity in its development pipeline across Latin America, with 1.7GW already under contract. The company is expanding its renewable energy footprint in the region by focusing on large-scale, utility-grade solar installations.
Recently, BloombergNEF recognized Zelestra as one of the top 10 global clean energy suppliers to corporate customers. The company also holds the second-highest ranking across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia for clean energy provision.
The San Martín project marks a milestone in Peru’s renewable energy development and strengthens Zelestra’s position as a key contributor to the region’s clean energy transition. With its growing pipeline and ongoing partnerships, Zelestra aims to continue supporting the shift toward low-emission energy solutions in Latin America.
