Bangladesh and Pakistan Advance Textile Supply Chain Cooperation

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 27, Mohammad Hatem, President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), and Imran Haider, Pakistan's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, held talks in Dhaka. The two sides held discussions on textile and apparel trade, raw material procurement, and business-to-business cooperation, and plan to further strengthen direct links among textile manufacturers, suppliers, and buyers in the two countries.

According to the discussions, Bangladeshi textile and apparel enterprises will expand procurement from Pakistan of yarn, fabrics, denim, dyes, textile chemicals, and other production inputs. The two sides identified price competitiveness, product quality, delivery cycles, and order fulfillment capacity as priorities for supply cooperation, and plan to further expand upstream raw material procurement channels through business matchmaking. Pakistan has a relatively complete cotton, spinning, weaving, and denim industry chain, while Bangladesh is one of the world's major garment and knitwear production bases. The industrial chain cooperation between the two countries focuses on upstream raw materials and downstream garment manufacturing.

This cooperation will also be advanced based on the memorandum of understanding previously signed between BKMEA and the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA). The two sides plan to designate liaison officers respectively and formulate a schedule of cooperation activities, regularly organizing business-to-business matchmaking, industrial delegation exchanges, and factory visits to promote direct procurement and supply relationships between textile enterprises.

BKMEA also invited Pakistani textile enterprises to attend the Bangladesh International Textile, Knitwear and Apparel Industry Exhibition, scheduled to be held in Dhaka in January 2027. The Pakistani side stated that it will support the expansion of trade and commercial cooperation between the two sides. As cooperation mechanisms among raw material procurement, manufacturing enterprises, and industry associations are gradually established, the scope of cooperation in the textile industry chains of the two countries will further extend to areas such as yarn, fabrics, denim, and textile accessories.
