thyssenkrupp nucera awarded chlor-alkali project order in Northwest China

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 29, thyssenkrupp nucera secured a chlor-alkali technology order from Hongniu Lanzhou Environmental Protection Technology, with a contract value in the double-digit million euro range. The project is located in Northwest China. nucera will provide technology licensing, engineering design, procurement services, supply of key equipment, and commissioning support. The project will adopt its latest-generation e-BiTAC v7 ion-exchange membrane electrolysis technology.

Hongniu Lanzhou is a wholly owned subsidiary of Jiangsu Hongniu and serves as the Hongniu Group's strategic project platform in Northwest China. The company's existing businesses include industrial waste salt recycling and utilization, chemical product manufacturing and sales, environmental protection technology research and development, as well as technical consulting and engineering services. This project will be Hongniu Lanzhou's first entry into the chlor-alkali industry and its first procurement of chlor-alkali technology and equipment from thyssenkrupp nucera.

The project will use nucera's e-BiTAC v7 electrolyzer system for chlor-alkali production. According to the technical parameters published by nucera, the system consumes less than 1960 kWh of electricity per ton of sodium hydroxide produced at a current density of 6 kA/m². The equipment is developed based on the BiTAC ion-exchange membrane electrolysis technology platform and is designed for continuous operation in large-scale chlor-alkali plants.

The scope of this contract covers process licensing, engineering design, procurement services, supply of key equipment, and commissioning support. nucera will be involved continuously from the project engineering phase through to plant start-up preparation. Compared with a pure technology license, this cooperation also includes equipment and engineering services, and will subsequently proceed to procurement, equipment manufacturing, on-site installation, and commissioning.

Wang Zhaomin, General Manager of Hongniu Group, stated that the company is entering the chlor-alkali market through this project and using it to establish a foundation for its chlor-alkali business. Hongniu Lanzhou will serve as the group's implementation platform for related projects in Northwest China. This order also marks the first cooperation between the two parties.

thyssenkrupp nucera has completed more than 600 electrochemical projects to date, with a cumulative installed capacity exceeding 10 GW, covering chlor-alkali electrolysis and alkaline water electrolysis. China is one of its main chlor-alkali markets, and this order will further increase its BiTAC series electrolyzer projects in Northwest China.
