en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 6, US fusion energy company Type One Energy completed a $200 million Series B funding round, co-led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Clutterbuck Capital, with participation from new investors including Lowercarbon Capital, Siemens Energy Ventures under Siemens Energy, and SiteGround Capital. Following the completion of this funding round, the company's cumulative financing exceeds $400 million, with valuation undisclosed. The funding will be used for the FusionDirect technology development program and subsequent implementation of the Project Infinity in Tennessee.

Project Infinity is located at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Bull Run Energy Complex in East Tennessee, comprising the Infinity One stellarator engineering validation platform and the Infinity Two commercial fusion power plant. Infinity One is operated by Type One Energy for engineering validation and personnel training, and is planned to enter the commissioning and startup phase in 2029; Infinity Two adopts stellarator technology and is planned for a net electrical power of 400 megawatts.

In August of this year, Type One Energy obtained a fusion-specific byproduct material license from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation for the fusion equipment at the Bull Run site. When the company submitted its first license application in January of this year, it disclosed that Project Infinity will be advanced in phases, with the first phase being Infinity One, followed by the construction of the Infinity Two commercial fusion power plant.

The Tennessee Valley Authority has previously signed the first batch of commercial contracts for Project Infinity with Type One Energy, and its Power Service Shops will participate in developing custom welding and manufacturing processes for the project, with the related methods to be first applied to Infinity One and then directed toward the subsequent Infinity Two project. The Tennessee Valley Authority has also issued a letter of intent to Type One Energy regarding the potential deployment of Infinity Two.

Type One Energy is also expanding external manufacturing and engineering partnerships. The company's new investors in this round include Siemens Energy Ventures, and it plans to continue advancing manufacturing cooperation with Siemens Energy; engineering work for Infinity Two also involves AECOM. Type One Energy adopts a high-temperature superconducting magnet stellarator approach, and its publicly disclosed design employs deuterium-tritium fuel, with a designed fusion power of 800 megawatts and 400 megawatts delivered to the grid.
