en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 1, the first batch of nuclear fuel shipments for Unit 2 of Bangladesh's Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant resumed, with the relevant cargo departing from Russia via an alternative route. The first cargo flight carrying nuclear fuel is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on the afternoon of October 2. Under the current supply arrangement, nuclear fuel for Unit 2 will be delivered to Bangladesh in batches via 7 cargo flights, with all deliveries scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2026.

This batch of nuclear fuel was originally scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on September 24, but the transport flight failed to obtain overflight permission through Pakistani airspace, and the delivery plan was subsequently adjusted. The Pakistani side attributed the situation to technical and procedural issues. Rosatom thereafter rearranged the supply plan, and nuclear fuel for Unit 2 will be delivered in batches via 7 cargo flights between October and December 2026, with all supplies scheduled to be completed by the end of December.

Unit 2 of Rooppur adopts a VVER-1200 pressurized water reactor, with a single-unit installed capacity of 1,200 MW. After the nuclear fuel arrives in Dhaka, it will continue to be transported to the Ishwardi project site for subsequent loading and commissioning preparation for Unit 2. The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is building a total of two 1,200 MW units, with a total installed capacity of 2,400 MW.

This round of transportation for Unit 2 is part of the initial core fuel supply arrangement. Rosatom previously confirmed that the relevant fuel will be transported in batches in accordance with the project contract and the established delivery plan; this adjustment has not changed the schedule of completing all nuclear fuel supplies for Unit 2 by the end of December 2026.
