Canada Commissions Entr to Conduct Offshore Wind Power Transmission Route Study
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 5, Entr, the consulting business under Aker Solutions, was awarded a contract by Canada's Net Zero Atlantic for an offshore wind power transmission route and technology study. The work is part of the Atlantic Canada Offshore Wind Readiness Program. Entr will collaborate with C-CORE, a Canadian marine engineering consultancy, to conduct planning-level research on offshore transmission routes and technology configurations for future offshore wind projects. The study will be led by Aker Solutions' team in St. John's, Canada, with support from the Oslo, Norway team.

The scope of the study includes a comparison of different offshore transmission corridors and transmission technology options, an assessment of the power export pathways required for future offshore wind development in Nova Scotia, and an examination of potential options for delivering power to other regions of Canada and the U.S. market. The work is currently at the planning study stage and does not involve construction approval for specific offshore wind farms or transmission lines.
This study connects with Net Zero Atlantic's previous Atlantic Canada offshore wind grid integration and transmission study. That study covered Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, and examined offshore wind resource deployment, grid connection, transmission expansion, interprovincial transmission, and export options. Natural Resources Canada previously provided CAD 6 million in funding for related research, with objectives including identifying the transmission and distribution upgrades and investments needed for large-scale offshore wind integration.
After receiving nearly CAD 5 million from Natural Resources Canada in February 2026, Net Zero Atlantic continued advancing Atlantic offshore wind and transmission data analysis and modeling work, covering potential transmission corridors, cable technology selection, and regulatory, environmental, and supply chain conditions. The route and technology study undertaken by Entr and C-CORE will produce specific engineering analysis results for this phase.
Under the current arrangement, Entr's research work is expected to be completed by January 2027, with the results to be publicly released thereafter.
