International Standard on Brain-Computer Interface Reference Architecture Led by China Published
en.Wedoany.com Reported - In September 2026, the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission officially published the international standard ISO/IEC 27572:2026 "Information Technology — Brain-Computer Interface Reference Architecture," which was developed under the leadership of Chinese experts. The standard was organized and developed by the Brain-Computer Interface Subcommittee of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 43, with a Chinese expert serving as project editor, and was completed jointly with technical experts from multiple countries. The full text of the standard comprises 18 pages and has entered the stage of official publication as an international standard.

The standard specifies the reference architecture for brain-computer interface systems, establishing a technical framework around system concepts, applications, functions, and implementation approaches, defining the key characteristics, typical implementation categories, and related technical components of brain-computer interface systems, and providing a common architectural reference for system design across different technical routes.
The content of the standard is intended for brain-computer interface system designers, manufacturers, equipment suppliers, service providers, and regulatory bodies, covering technical reference requirements in system architecture design, functional division, implementation categories, and application development. It also includes typical implementation approaches of brain-computer interface technology in application system development, as well as architectural analysis of the effects of related technology use.
The standard development project was approved on May 3, 2024, with Chinese expert Li Nan serving as project editor. In September 2026, it entered the stage of international standard publication. China had previously published the recommended national standard GB/T 47023—2026 "Information Technology — Brain-Computer Interface — Reference Architecture" on January 28, 2026, which took effect on August 1. The two standards correspond respectively to the international standards system and the Chinese national standards system.
