en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 19, Italy's Eni Group announced that the Bouri oilfield associated gas utilization project, implemented through its joint venture Mellitah Oil & Gas with Libya's National Oil Corporation, has completed construction and formally entered the commissioning start-up phase. The project is located offshore western Libya. Once operational, it will add approximately 700 million standard cubic meters of natural gas supply per year and reduce approximately 1.5 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions. The recovered gas will primarily supply Libya's domestic power market while also increasing gas volumes for export to Europe via the Green Stream gas pipeline.

Italian engineering firm Saipem undertook the main offshore works for the project, securing a contract worth approximately USD 1 billion in August 2023 for the design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of the gas recovery module, as well as the modification of existing offshore production facilities. The works involved adding a gas recovery and processing module to the DP4 offshore platform and laying approximately 28 kilometers of subsea pipelines connecting the DP3, DP4, and Sabratha platforms. The water depth in the Bouri oilfield area ranges from approximately 145 to 183 meters.

The new gas recovery module was fabricated by Rosetti Marino at a shipyard near Ravenna, Italy. It was shipped in May 2026 and installed offshore in June by the semi-submersible crane vessel "Saipem 7000." The module weighs over 5,200 tonnes and measures approximately 45 meters in length, 31 meters in width, and 45 meters in height, with a fabrication period of approximately two years. The construction team subsequently carried out the interconnection of the module with the DP4 platform, as well as commissioning of communication, safety, and control systems and pre-commissioning of the subsea pipelines.

On October 8, Libya's National Oil Corporation organized a coordination meeting with Eni North Africa and Mellitah Oil & Gas to review arrangements for receiving, processing, and transporting Bouri oilfield gas upon its arrival at the Mellitah industrial complex. With the completion of the gas recovery module and associated interconnection facilities, the project has entered the start-up phase of the gas recovery and processing system.
