en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 4, UK-based aviation ground services provider Menzies Aviation announced that it has been awarded the ground handling contract for Singapore Airlines at Western Sydney International Airport in Australia, and will provide passenger services, aircraft ramp handling, and air cargo handling services. The related operations are scheduled to commence on November 23, in sync with Singapore Airlines' launch of operations at the airport, covering daily scheduled passenger flights and non-scheduled cargo flights.

Menzies will be responsible for ground passenger handling for flights, involving passenger check-in, boarding organization, and flight ground coordination. Ramp handling operations will center on aircraft ground turnarounds, including coordination of ramp operations after aircraft arrival, baggage and cargo loading and unloading, pre-pushback support, and related ground operation interfaces. These services require coordination with airline operations control, airport operations departments, and other ground service providers to ensure that aircraft complete all handling tasks within the specified turnaround time. This contract integrates passenger services and ramp handling into a single service system, which helps the airline coordinate flight ground operations in a unified manner.

Air cargo is another important component of this contract. Menzies will use its newly built cargo facility at Western Sydney International Airport. Located in the airport's cargo precinct, the facility covers an area of approximately 12,500 square meters and has an annual cargo handling capacity of up to 200,000 tonnes, making it the company's largest cargo warehouse in Oceania and Southeast Asia. The facility is designed to handle different types of air cargo, including pharmaceuticals, perishable goods, e-commerce parcels, and heavy cargo, and can provide appropriate storage, handling, and transfer conditions for different cargo types.

In terms of cargo information management, the facility uses the Menzies MACH cargo management platform for cargo information management and shipment status tracking. Through the digital management system, cargo operators can access cargo handling and transport milestone information, improving the visibility of cargo at the warehouse receiving, handling, loading, and handover stages. For cargo such as pharmaceuticals and perishables that have stringent requirements for transport conditions and handling time, the interface between storage facilities, ground operations, and flight handling is particularly important. Both Singapore Airlines' passenger flights and ad hoc cargo flights are included in the scope of this service, enabling Menzies to simultaneously handle the ground handling needs of belly-hold cargo on passenger aircraft and dedicated cargo flights.

Currently, Menzies operates cargo or ground handling services at 15 airports in Australia, and Western Sydney International Airport will become its 11th cargo operating location in the country. This new business will be carried out using the already completed 12,500-square-meter cargo facility, forming a service system that links warehouse handling, cargo transport, and aircraft ground handling. As Singapore Airlines plans to launch daily passenger flights at Western Sydney International Airport, Menzies will simultaneously provide passenger, ramp, and cargo handling services for the route.
