ScottishPower Awards Construction Contract for East Anglia Offshore Wind Base
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 4, ScottishPower Renewables awarded the design and construction contract for the East Anglia offshore wind operations base to local construction firm R G Carter. The project is located in Lowestoft, Suffolk, England, with a planned construction area of nearly 6,000 square meters and a total investment of approximately GBP 9 million. Demolition work at the original site has already begun, and main construction of the new base is scheduled to start in 2027. Once completed, it will support offshore wind farm monitoring, maritime coordination, and operations management.

The new operations base is sited on the former RJ Pryce plot on Trinity Road in Lowestoft. Demolition work is being carried out by Ipswich-based Tru Demolition, while R G Carter is responsible for the subsequent design and construction of the base. The base is planned to include a three-storey building housing office and administrative areas, a wind farm control room, a maritime coordination center, and dedicated warehouse space, with overall capacity for approximately 100 staff.
The new base will operate alongside ScottishPower's existing East Anglia ONE offshore wind operations facility. The existing facility, located near the new base, continues to operate under a 30-year lease agreement with Associated British Ports. The new facility will add onshore operations and management space for the East Anglia offshore wind business.
With the addition of R G Carter, the number of supply chain companies in the East Anglia region working with ScottishPower has reached more than 100, and cumulative investment in the regional supply chain has exceeded GBP 100 million for the first time. The company has participated in multiple construction projects in eastern England, and this new base contract covers the design and construction of supporting buildings for offshore wind operations.
Ross Ovens, Managing Director of Offshore Wind at ScottishPower Renewables, confirmed that construction of the new operations base is planned to begin in 2027. The project developer has completed the selection of engineering contractors, with demolition of the original site and subsequent base construction carried out by separate companies.
