Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 21, Bluestone Energy has obtained planning permission for its 49,500KW Middleton Farm solar project in Renfrewshire, Scotland. The company confirmed that this development is its largest solar initiative so far and represents a significant stage in its transition from a project developer to an independent power producer (IPP).

The planning application was managed by Cogeo Planning & Environmental Services, which carried out environmental assessments, community engagement, and technical documentation to ensure the scheme met both ecological and regulatory requirements. Bluestone’s internal land, grid, and planning team—led by Dave Robertson, Sat Ubhi, and Dan Sadler—secured land rights, grid connection, and formal approvals necessary to move the project forward.

Chief executive Freddy White expressed appreciation for the milestone: “Securing planning permission for Middleton Farm is a proud moment for Bluestone Energy. It reflects the hard work and passion of our entire team—from land and planning to engineering and community engagement.” He further noted: “This project is central to our strategy to transition from developer to IPP, and it sets a new benchmark for what we can achieve. Middleton Farm is our largest solar farm to date, and we look forward to reaching Final Investment Decision in 2026 and beginning construction shortly thereafter.”

Bluestone stated that it is in discussions with Glasgow and Renfrewshire councils about a power purchase agreement. The proposed agreement aims to deliver locally generated electricity at affordable rates, contributing to regional energy security and community benefit.

The Middleton Farm solar project is part of Bluestone’s broader pipeline of renewable energy assets. The company currently has over 4GW of solar, battery, and wind projects under development across the United Kingdom. This latest approval highlights both the company’s growing role in renewable energy generation and its long-term objective of diversifying its business into independent energy production.

By securing approval for Middleton Farm, Bluestone positions itself to expand clean energy capacity in Scotland while advancing its corporate strategy. The project reflects collaboration between the developer, local authorities, and planning specialists, and underscores the company’s commitment to combining environmental responsibility with regional development goals.
