Tele2 to Expand 5G Coverage to Reach 90% of Estonian Population by Year-End

Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 26, Tele2, a leading telecommunications provider, is significantly expanding its 5G network in Estonia to deliver fast and reliable mobile data to a majority of residents. The initiative extends coverage beyond urban centers and major towns to include highways, ensuring seamless internet access for users on the move.

Last year, Tele2’s 5G network reached approximately 70% of Estonia’s population. By the end of this year, the company aims to provide nearly 90% of Estonians with access to enhanced mobile data services, offering improved speed and stability. This expansion reflects Tele2’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for high-quality connectivity across the country.

The company is investing in network infrastructure throughout Estonia, constructing new base stations and upgrading existing 4G and 5G sites. While initial efforts have focused on densely populated cities, Tele2 is now prioritizing highways and smaller communities to ensure broader access. This strategic approach aims to address connectivity gaps and provide consistent service in both urban and rural areas.

“Estonians’ need for fast internet is steadily growing—at home, at work, and on the move,” said Margus Sits, Head of Radio Network Planning at Tele2. “That’s why our goal is to expand 5G coverage evenly across the country, so that high-quality mobile data is accessible and becomes an everyday standard. Over the past year, we’ve placed strong emphasis on covering major highways to ensure a stable connection while traveling. Going forward, we will increasingly extend coverage to sparsely populated areas so that 5G reaches every corner of Estonia. We are also strengthening the network in areas where coverage has been weak, to provide customers with a smooth and reliable connection.”

Tele2’s efforts focus on creating a robust and inclusive 5G network, enhancing user experiences for work, travel, and daily activities. By upgrading infrastructure and extending coverage to underserved regions, the company is supporting Estonia’s digital advancement, ensuring that residents across urban centers, highways, and rural areas benefit from reliable, high-speed mobile data services.
