Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 27, Argentina’s soybean processing in September rose to 4.13 million tonnes, the highest level in the past 11 months and above the 3.91 million tonnes recorded a year earlier, according to Oil World. The increase reflected stronger demand for soybean-based products, supported by a surge in exports.
During the month, shipments of soybean meal and oil reached 2.15 million tonnes, a significant jump from 0.3 million tonnes in the same period last year. About 96% of these exports were shipped to China, highlighting China’s major role as a destination for Argentine soybean products. Encouraged by this demand, Argentina also expanded its soybean exports to 6.3 million tonnes, marking a 42% year-on-year increase.
Since the beginning of the year, Argentina’s total oilseed crushing has reached 32 million tonnes, exceeding the 30.9 million tonnes processed over the same period in 2024. This marks the highest level of oilseed processing in four years, reflecting steady improvement in the country’s oilseed industry performance. The growth has been supported by consistent export demand, particularly from Asia, and improved crushing margins.
In contrast, sunflower seed processing in September declined by 18% compared with the previous month, totaling 0.4 million tonnes. Despite the monthly decrease, the figure remained 33% higher than in the same period last year, indicating overall year-on-year progress in the sunflower sector.
However, lower processing volumes, combined with strong exports of sunflower oil and meal, led to a reduction in inventories. Sunflower oil stocks dropped to 77,000 tonnes, the lowest level in six months, while meal reserves fell to 135,000 tonnes. The decrease in stock levels reflects both robust overseas demand and limited domestic availability of sunflower oil and meal for the remainder of the year.
Overall, Argentina’s oilseed industry continued to show recovery momentum through 2025, supported by improved export flows and strong external demand, particularly from China. The sustained rise in soybean processing and exports has strengthened Argentina’s position in the global oilseed market, while fluctuations in sunflower processing highlight the ongoing adjustments within the broader oilseed complex.
