Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 23, PPC Group has successfully connected a new 130 MW photovoltaic plant in Călugăreni, Romania, approximately 40 kilometres south of Bucharest, to the national grid. The facility significantly strengthens the company’s renewable energy presence in the country.

The plant consists of 227,240 bifacial photovoltaic panels and is projected to produce over 193 GWh of electricity annually, enough to supply around 48,500 households. It is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 116,000 tonnes each year.

Konstantinos Mavros, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of RES PPC Group, stated: “We remain committed to the group’s strategy to be a dominant energy pillar in the wider region of Southeastern Europe. The new photovoltaic plant in Romania confirms our dominant position in the Romanian renewable energy market.”

The Călugăreni project forms part of a broader cooperation agreement with Metlen Energy & Metals. Under this partnership, an additional 460 MW of solar parks across Romania are scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.

With the addition of the new facility, PPC Group’s total installed capacity across its operations now exceeds 6.5 GW, of which 1.5 GW is located in Romania. The company continues to expand its renewable energy activities throughout Southeast Europe through ongoing development of solar and wind projects.

According to PPC Group’s current three-year strategic plan, the company targets an increase in renewable energy capacity to 11.8 GW by 2027. More than 60 per cent of this planned growth is already either under construction or in the final preparation stage for development.

The successful commissioning of the Călugăreni plant demonstrates continued progress toward these objectives and reinforces PPC Group’s growing role in the regional transition to clean energy sources.
