Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 27, Digital Connexion, a joint venture involving Reliance Industries, Brookfield, and Digital Realty, announced on November 26 a 1-gigawatt data centre campus near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Scheduled for completion by 2030, the project represents one of the largest single data centre investments ever made in India.

The campus will cover 400 acres and is designed specifically for high-density artificial intelligence computing and hyperscale cloud services. It will feature redundant power supply systems, advanced cooling technology, high-density server racks, and direct connectivity options for major global cloud providers.

The new facility will significantly expand Digital Connexion's presence in India, complementing its existing large-scale campus in Chennai and the ongoing expansion in Mumbai's Chandivali area. The company stated that the Visakhapatnam development responds to growing requirements for AI-ready infrastructure from both international and Indian customers.

The choice of Visakhapatnam supports the ongoing diversification of data centre locations across India, moving capacity beyond established metropolitan centres. The coastal location offers advantages for power availability and future connectivity enhancements.

The project aligns with national efforts to increase domestic data centre capacity while addressing rising demand for cloud services, accelerated 5G deployment, and expanding AI applications across various sectors.

Upon full completion, the 1GW campus is expected to become one of the largest facilities of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region. Development will proceed in phases, enabling progressive activation of capacity to match market requirements.

State authorities described the investment as an important step in establishing Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for advanced digital infrastructure. The campus is intended to provide low-latency services for hyperscale operators, AI-focused enterprises, and large organisations operating in India's rapidly expanding digital economy.

Digital Connexion emphasised that the facility will incorporate latest-generation design standards to support intensive computational workloads while maintaining high levels of reliability and efficiency. The announcement reinforces India's growing role as a key location for global data centre and cloud infrastructure development.
