Wedoany.com Report-Dec.3, The Government Procurement Committee of Bangladesh has approved the import of 220,000 metric tonnes of wheat from the United States through a government-to-government arrangement.
The contract, valued at 842.06 crore taka (approximately 68.2 million USD), was awarded to Agrocorp International PTE Ltd, acting as the designated agent for US Wheat Associates. The agreed price stands at 312.25 USD per metric tonne.
The decision was made during the 48th meeting of the Committee, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
Procurement will be executed by the Directorate General of Food under the direction of the Ministry of Food. Officials stated that the additional volume is required to replenish national grain reserves and secure sufficient supplies for various public distribution and social welfare programmes.
The wheat will be delivered in accordance with the terms of the G2G agreement, ensuring a reliable and timely addition to Bangladesh's strategic food stockpiles.
This procurement forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain stable domestic grain availability amid fluctuating global market conditions and growing requirements for public food security initiatives.
