Wedoany.com Report-Dec.9, Australia exported 62,708 tonnes of canola in October 2025, a sharp decline from 158,849 tonnes shipped in September, according to the latest figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Japan remained the dominant destination, receiving 57,293 tonnes, followed by Malaysia (1,951 tonnes) and Nepal (1,485 tonnes). Total volume for October 2025 was substantially lower than the 180,073 tonnes exported in October 2024, when large shipments to Belgium and France had supported higher volumes.

The reduced October figure reflects the typical seasonal drawdown of old-crop stocks ahead of the new harvest. Significant volumes of 2025–26 crop canola are expected to begin loading from southern Australian ports in November.

November export data will record the first bulk shipment of Australian canola to China since 2020. Market sources indicate this initial cargo is widely regarded as a trial consignment, with at least ten additional bookings already confirmed for the coming months.

In its November supply-and-demand update, Lachstock Consulting noted that global canola availability has increased more than previously anticipated, with larger harvests in Australia, Canada and Europe, combined with stronger Ukrainian export flows.

"The world has more canola than expected, with Australia, Canada and Europe all delivering bigger crops, and Ukraine exports picking up pace," the report said.

"That removes the immediate supply squeeze, but the challenge now shifts to execution — moving WA's large GM export program, managing wide east-west spreads, and finding near-term import demand in markets that look mostly covered.

"Short-term pressure is likely, but biodiesel growth, record crush demand and new GM access into Pakistan provide solid medium-term support."

The re-opening of the Chinese market, together with sustained demand from traditional buyers and expanding biodiesel requirements, is expected to support Australian canola export volumes through the 2025–26 marketing year.
