Wedoany.com Report-Dec.21, Andorra Telecom has completed the nationwide expansion of its 5G network using the 3.5GHz band, delivering increased capacity, higher speeds, and greater reliability to address rising data usage and enhance service quality.
Since June, the operator has prepared exchanges, reorganized fiber connections, and installed additional infrastructure, achieving full deployment during autumn. This upgrade supplements the existing network by adding a new performance layer.
The enhancement was first implemented in Pal to support La Vuelta cycling event, effectively managing significant traffic increases from large gatherings. Similar technology previously ensured strong coverage at the National Stadium during the Games of the Small States inauguration.
Customers with compatible devices now access the 5G at 3.5GHz benefits, including:
- Doubled traffic capacity compared to 4G maximum.
- Doubled data transmission speeds over 4G.
- More stable connections with reduced latency, suited for video calls, online gaming, streaming, and remote work.
- Improved performance in busy locations such as city centers, commercial areas, ski resort parking zones, and event venues.
The 5G network reaches 91% of the population across 44 sites, covering places like Encamp, Anyós, La Massana, Arinsal, Santa Coloma, Grau Roig, Pas de la Casa, Canillo, and Soldeu.
The 2025 plan involved expanding exchange facilities, updating related 4G components, and progressively rolling out the new 5G layer nationwide.
This advancement positions Andorra Telecom as a prominent operator in Europe, providing a standard 5G frequency not universally available elsewhere and markedly elevating connection standards.
Xavier Agulló, Head of Marketing and Sales at Andorra Telecom said: "With this expansion, we complete a key project to strengthen the quality of mobile service in the country. Data consumption continues to grow, and our customers need a network capable of meeting that demand reliably. The 5G improvements we have implemented allow us to offer more capacity, greater stability, and a much smoother experience in any situation, whether in daily use or during periods of high demand. It’s a step forward that prepares us to continue evolving the network."
The rollout ensures robust mobile broadband in Andorra's varied terrain, from urban parishes to mountainous resorts. By layering advanced spectrum on established infrastructure, the operator accommodates escalating demands without disrupting current services.
This nationwide coverage supports seamless connectivity for residents, visitors, and businesses alike, facilitating applications requiring consistent high performance. Future-oriented planning positions the network to handle ongoing growth in data-intensive activities across the principality.
