Wedoany.com Report-Dec.25, Larsen & Toubro's Hydrocarbon Onshore business vertical has secured a significant order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.
The contract covers engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a Linear Low-Density Polyethylene and High-Density Polyethylene Swing Unit at Bina in Madhya Pradesh. The unit consists of two production trains, each with a capacity of 575,000 tonnes per year.
L&T will execute the project on a Lump Sum Turnkey basis. Upon completion, the facility will become India's largest LLDPE/HDPE Swing Unit, establishing a new benchmark in domestic polyethylene manufacturing capacity.
This development forms a key component of BPCL's Bina Petrochemicals and Refinery Expansion Project. The broader initiative seeks to establish a petrochemical complex while increasing the refinery's processing capacity from 7.8 million metric tonnes per annum to approximately 11 million metric tonnes per annum.
The project supports India's efforts to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities and achieve greater self-reliance in polymer production. It contributes to strengthening the country's petrochemical infrastructure and meeting rising demand for polyethylene products used across various industries.
L&T Hydrocarbon Onshore ranks among India's leading engineering, procurement, and construction companies in the hydrocarbon sector. The vertical delivers comprehensive Lump Sum Turnkey solutions covering upstream, midstream, and downstream activities.
With a proven execution record spanning multiple geographies, L&T Onshore has successfully delivered numerous large-scale projects. These include refinery capacity expansions, full petrochemical complexes, gas processing facilities, fertiliser plants, LNG terminals, and cross-country pipeline systems.
The award reflects confidence in L&T's ability to handle complex, high-capacity petrochemical units while meeting stringent technical and schedule requirements. The Bina Swing Unit will incorporate advanced process technology to enable flexible production of both LLDPE and HDPE grades, catering to diverse market needs.
This order strengthens L&T's portfolio in the growing Indian petrochemical sector. It also aligns with national priorities focused on industrial growth, energy security, and value addition within the hydrocarbon value chain.
Execution of the project will involve close coordination among various stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient, and timely delivery. The facility is expected to play an important role in boosting local production capacity and reducing reliance on imported polymers.
L&T continues to build on its expertise in delivering integrated solutions for energy and petrochemical infrastructure. The Bina project represents another milestone in supporting India's industrial development and manufacturing expansion.
