Wedoany.com Report on Feb 25th, The UK leisure airline Jet2 has announced the completion of its winglet retrofit project for its Boeing 737-800 fleet, involving a total of 74 aircraft. This modification aims to enhance flight efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of aviation operations.

The retrofit work, which took two years, involved installing Aviation Partners Boeing-developed split scimitar winglets on these twin-jet aircraft. Jet2 stated that the installation of winglets is expected to save over 11 million liters of fuel annually, effectively reducing operational costs and carbon footprint.

David Neill, Director of Sustainability at Jet2, noted: "This multi-million-pound investment in our fleet is the latest demonstration of our firm commitment to taking tangible action to reduce our environmental impact." He emphasized the company's focus on sustainability and its efforts to achieve environmental goals through technological upgrades.

Jet2 is advancing its fleet modernization process, including plans to introduce 155 Airbus A321neo aircraft. The company believes this move will help further reduce aviation carbon emissions and support its overall environmental strategy.

Jet2 has also implemented a transformation plan based on existing technologies, aiming to reduce emissions per revenue passenger kilometer to 43.5 grams by 2035, a 35% reduction compared to the 67 grams in 2019. This plan reflects Jet2's ongoing efforts to optimize aviation operations through technological means such as winglet retrofits to address environmental challenges.
