Wedoany.com Report on Feb 26th, NANO Nuclear has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with diversified investment holding company EHC to collaborate on exploring opportunities for deploying Micro-Modular Reactors (MMRs) in the United Arab Emirates. EHC, a subsidiary of International Holding Company, has over 35 years of history. Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly assess the potential for entering the regional market, study pathways to establish a nuclear supply chain, and explore possibilities for supporting local clean energy goals.

The collaboration will focus on identifying potential end-users and sites for the KRONOS MMR, with target applications including industrial facilities, data centers, and other energy-intensive infrastructure. The KRONOS MMR is a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor with a thermal power of 45 MW and an electrical output of 15 MW. It utilizes TRISO fuel and a prismatic graphite block design, featuring a sealed, transportable core that requires no water or reliance on the power grid. It can be transported by road and assembled on-site. Multiple units can be combined to achieve gigawatt-scale power output.

The UAE's existing nuclear capacity comes from the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, which consists of four units. The first unit commenced operations in 2021 and currently supplies approximately 25% of the country's electricity. This collaboration aims to further advance the application of micro-modular reactor technology and contribute to diversifying the energy mix.
