Kyrgyzstan Begins Mining Gold at Kumtor Deposit After Nationalisation

Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 28, On August 27, 2025, Kyrgyzstan launched underground gold mining operations at the Kumtor deposit, one of Central Asia’s largest gold reserves, located in the Issyk-Kul region, approximately 50 kilometers from the Chinese border. The government estimates the site holds up to 147 metric tons of gold reserves, marking a significant step in expanding the country’s mining capabilities.
