More recently, we have captured many WRC and CART titles, and we have made a significant impact at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Toyota is one of the top manufacturers in terms of different racing categories and sheer number of race entries-a presence that has supported the development of the motorsport itself over the years. By being active in a wide variety of motorsport categories, we have intentionally placed our machines in the toughest of competitions. Our motto has been, and continues to be, taking on new challenges in new areas. Having completed all of our groundwork, perhaps it was inevitable that we challenge the pinnacle of motorsport, the F1 Series.1950 - 1970 : Toyota Motorsport began with the entry of a Toyota Crown in the 1957 Australian Rally. In the 1960s, Toyota introduced its first serious sports cars, the S800 and the 2000GT, entering them in several races. The 1970s saw the unveiling of the Celica, the Corolla Levin and other high-performance rally cars, building the reputation of Toyota around the world. Toyota also won its first WRC during this time. 1980 - : Toyota continued to develop rally cars into the 1980s. During this time period, Toyota entered its first Paris-Dakar Rally, with the Land Cruiser team delivering spectacular results. Not long after, Toyota first took on the challenge that is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Toyota made great strides in motorsport during this important decade. 1990 - : More than any event of the 1990s, the most exciting had to be Toyota’s announcement of its decision to challenge the F1 Series. With more than 10 years of success in the WRC, valuable lessons learned from years of participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, domination of the CART Series, and countless wins in Japan, Toyota was ready to prove its spirit on the world’s greatest racing stage. 2000 - : After many years of racing, Toyota set a new goal for itself in the year 2000. The decision was made to put all of the Toyota resources behind fielding successful teams in the CART and F1 series. The Toyota GT-One entered into the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans was a racing car developed to be a bridge to F1. Eight months later, Toyota began testing F1 components developed for the GT-One. At the same time, Toyota continued to support and participate in worldwide motorsport, providing engines for CART and F3 cars, fielding a Japanese GT series team, and entering many other minor races.
