Thermokon started with the production of special sensors for the heating industry. Over the years, the product line was extended by air quality , humidity, light and occupancy sensors. Capitalising on new innovative technologies and their fast realization are always the supporting pillars of a company. Thus, Thermokon was able to establish quickly into the market and achieve continuous growth. In order to optimise the production and quality control, a quality management system was introduced in 1995 and Thermokon has been certified to DIN EN ISO 9001. The first milestone in its history was made with the development of an argon ion laser for the treatment of patients with glaucoma. The NWL team single-mindedly continued to develop hightech laser systems and came out with the first compact laser marker DALI in 1991. Both product lines – medical and industrial laser systems – were built up intensively during the following years. After a remarkably short time – in 1995 – the company was able to implement thoughts of expansion, which had a very positive effect on the growth of the company and the sales figures. In 2006 the shareholding structure of NWL was rearranged. The NWL Lasertechnologie GmbH and the Photon Energy GmbH will cooperate even closer in the future. Both companies’ customers will benefit from the synergies released. The two companies excellently complement one another, Photon Energy develops and manufactures laser sources, which are then integrated in the NWL laser systems. Today NWL has achieved a strong market position as a specialist and manufacturer of industrial lasers for material processing. Exports began in the following year, and in 1993, the first bus chassis, the Volksbus 16.180 came to the market. However, it was in November 1996, with the opening of the plant in the city of Resende, in the south of Rio de Janeiro state, that Volkswagen Trucks and Buses made a great leap in technology and administration. Customers recognized the development of the business and recognized it, on its 20th anniversary, as the largest truck manufacturer in Brazil. It is the company that has most grown recently. Although there are more than 25 years of history, there is a half-century of tradition. Everything began in 1958, with the establishment of Simca of Brazil.
