On June 30, GS E&C announced that it will jointly develop "hybrid structure technology" with its modular construction subsidiary, Zygeist, and apply it to auxiliary facilities within Zy-brand apartment complexes to advance modular housing construction.

The hybrid structure technology offers unique advantages. Unlike common wooden modular buildings, this technology cleverly combines lightweight wood structures, heavyweight wood structures, and steel frames to create spacious open areas without columns. Modular construction involves factory-prefabricated panels and modules that are precisely cut in the factory and then transported to the site for assembly. This approach effectively shortens construction timelines, ensures construction stability, and minimizes on-site noise and waste.

GS E&C plans to first introduce this technology to the teahouse project at the "Yangsan Jai Park Palace" in Yangsan, Gyeongnam Province, which is currently on sale. In the future, it intends to expand its application to various auxiliary facilities such as teahouses and school bus zones in sales complexes. A representative from GS E&C stated, "We plan to extend wooden modular technology to residential spaces in various forms in the future."

Notably, earlier this year, GS E&C launched a steel-structure modular apartment on Ganghwa Island in Incheon. Currently, it is accelerating its "off-site construction" (OSC) strategy by building a two-story model house using precast concrete (PC) structures at its GPC factory in Asan, South Chungcheong Province. These initiatives demonstrate GS E&C's proactive layout and continuous innovation in the modular construction sector.
