On July 2, TASS reported that Liotech, a resident company of the St. Petersburg NPC BAS Technopark Center for Testing and Development of Unmanned Systems, has successfully developed lithium-ion batteries for urban trolleybuses. The press service of the St. Petersburg NPC BAS Technopark confirmed this to TASS.

According to the report, thanks to their outstanding performance, these batteries have been successfully applied in civilian ground electric transport, such as trolleybuses. The company has already signed a development contract for 35 vehicles.

Liotech specializes in the development and production of next-generation lithium-ion batteries, including those for unmanned aerial systems. The newly developed batteries provide significant advantages for trolleybuses, enabling autonomous operation: trolleybuses can travel over 35km without connection to overhead wires, greatly improving mobility and operational safety. Even in the event of line accidents or power outages, vehicles can continue running.

Additionally, the batteries have an expected lifespan of 7 years with capacity retention exceeding 80%, and can withstand extreme operating conditions, functioning normally in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +45°C.
