On June 15, reporters learned from Sinopec Jingwei Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Jingwei Company) that the company's self-developed 230°C/206 MPa high-temperature and high-pressure direct-push storage logging tool was successfully applied for the first time in the 11,000-meter deep well XK1. The tool operated continuously for 12 hours under high-temperature and high-pressure downhole conditions, setting two industry records: the highest well temperature for electrical imaging logging in China (212°C) and the deepest vertical depth for direct-push storage logging within Sinopec Group (10,440 meters).

Logging is a method of measuring rock physical parameters in the wellbore using instruments to understand subsurface geological conditions. It is like performing a CT scan on the Earth, serving as the "eyes" to see through the dark underground environment.

"Every extra meter of depth brings a thousand challenges," said Zang Defu, a senior logging engineering expert at Jingwei Company. "Currently, China's oil and gas exploration and development are accelerating toward ultra-deep and ultra-deep layers. Ultra-deep wells exceeding 8,000 meters and 10,000-meter exploratory wells are emerging, with more and more downhole environments exceeding 210°C and 200 MPa. Ultra-high-temperature and high-pressure logging technology is becoming a key support for breaking through exploration bottlenecks."

"The performance of high-temperature and high-pressure logging technology directly determines the accuracy of oil and gas resource evaluation and development efficiency," said Tan Maojin, professor and doctoral supervisor at China University of Geosciences (Beijing). He noted that for a long time, the core of ultra-high-temperature and high-pressure logging technology has been dependent on foreign sources, and it is essential to master the core technology ourselves.

To improve the temperature resistance of the instruments and test new insulation processes, Jingwei Company's researchers consulted extensive materials, like Shennong tasting hundreds of herbs, searching for the optimal combination of thousands of metal and non-metal components that meet high-temperature resistance requirements... Over a decade, relying on the high-temperature and high-pressure laboratory, the company conducted more than 1,000 indoor and field tests, successively overcoming over 30 technical challenges, and achieving 12 innovative results, including high-strength and pressure-resistant sealing, high-temperature acquisition and low power consumption, downhole automatic spectrum stabilization, and first-arrival wave recognition.

They have built a new generation of intelligent logging platforms with independent intellectual property rights, featuring ultra-high-temperature and high-pressure capabilities, outstanding imaging performance, and remote collaboration, forming a full-series product matrix of 210 types of instruments and tools, including high-temperature direct-push storage, through-bit, and direct-push electrical imaging tools. Among them, the high-temperature and high-pressure direct-push storage logging tool series can solve most construction challenges in ultra-deep wells, ultra-high-temperature and high-pressure wells, and complex well conditions; the through-bit logging tool is specifically designed for complex wells such as highly deviated and long horizontal wells; and the direct-push electrical imaging logging tool plays an irreplaceable role in parameter evaluation of complex lithology reservoirs.

Notably, the team developed China's first 260°C/206 MPa ultra-high-temperature and high-pressure logging tool, solving the data acquisition challenge for China's 10,000-meter ultra-deep layers under ultra-high-temperature and high-pressure conditions. In September 2025, the tool was selected as one of the first (sets) of major technical equipment in the energy field evaluated by the National Energy Administration.

Field application is the best criterion for testing the effectiveness of technological innovation. In Sinopec's offshore self-operated blocks, the high-temperature direct-push storage logging technology set a new record for the highest logging temperature in that sea area, achieving a 100% success rate for deep-sea high-temperature logging across 16 wells. In Shengli Oilfield, the high-temperature through-bit storage logging tool has become the preferred logging technology for shale oil.

From January to May this year, Jingwei Company's self-developed high-temperature logging tool series has been applied in over 160 field operations, with a 98% success rate for ultra-deep well operations, setting five construction records, injecting solid momentum into ensuring national energy security.
