CNNC's First 100MW Tower CSP Energy Storage Project Enters Trial Operation

CNNC's first 100MW tower concentrated solar power (CSP) energy storage project has entered the full-system trial operation phase. On July 22, the heat absorption tower of the Bozhou million-kilowatt thermal storage CSP new energy integration project was successfully lit, marking the official transition of the project into trial operation.

The project has a total installed capacity of 1 million kilowatts, adopting a coordinated operation model of 100,000 kilowatts of tower thermal storage CSP and 900,000 kilowatts of photovoltaic power, achieving deep coupling and complementary advantages between CSP and PV. The CSP system utilizes mature molten salt tower technology, featuring a 220-meter-high heat absorption tower and an energy matrix composed of 13,402 heliostats, covering a total area of 530,000 square meters. This matrix precisely reflects and concentrates sunlight onto the heat absorber, heating the molten salt medium to 565 degrees Celsius. The high-temperature molten salt is stored in a hot salt tank, providing the capability for 8 hours of continuous and stable power generation, thereby enhancing the system's peak-shaving performance and grid support capacity.

Currently, the project is advancing key tasks such as system commissioning, grid-related tests, and performance testing to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the CSP system, laying the foundation for subsequent commercial operation.

CNNC stated that it will continue to promote energy project development, integrate its own and upstream and downstream industrial resources, leverage major energy projects to drive local employment and industrial upgrading, and support the green and low-carbon transformation of Xinjiang's energy structure as well as regional economic and social development.
