Recently, the world's first domestically produced CAP1000 50Hz canned motor reactor coolant pump for Phase I of the Guangdong Lianjiang Nuclear Power Project was successfully completed and is ready for shipment, marking a landmark major breakthrough in the independent development and localization of China's third-generation nuclear power core equipment. Harbin Electric Group supplied the canned motor for this main pump.
As an important demonstration project for China's third-generation nuclear power independent innovation and industrial chain upgrading, Phase I of the Guangdong Lianjiang Nuclear Power Project plans to build two domestically produced CAP1000 third-generation passive pressurized water reactor units, each with a single-unit capacity of 1.25 million kilowatts.
Relying on the independently developed CAP1000 third-generation passive nuclear power technology, the project innovatively adopts a seawater secondary circulation cooling scheme, committed to creating a new "harmonious coexistence between nuclear power and coastal ecology" model that balances nuclear power development with coastal ecological protection, injecting strong momentum into the green, low-carbon, and high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The canned motor for this project is a new-generation product independently developed by Harbin Electric Group's Dongfang Electric Machinery Company (DEMC) following its CAP1000 60Hz and CAP1400 canned motors, achieving multiple major breakthroughs and successfully breaking through foreign technological barriers.
Top-Level Design
Through a brand-new forward-engineering approach to develop a dedicated 50Hz electromagnetic design scheme, the design effectively achieved matching rated speed, hydraulic performance, and coastdown flow for 50Hz operation, fundamentally resolving the pain point of insufficient compatibility between imported 60Hz equipment and China's 50Hz power grid frequency, filling a gap both domestically and internationally.
System Optimization
A 6kV nuclear-grade insulation system with high radiation tolerance and high-temperature resistance was developed, capable of long-term stable operation under the high-temperature and radiation conditions inside the motor cavity.
By optimizing the internal flow field structure of the motor, hydraulic friction losses are effectively reduced while motor efficiency is simultaneously improved.
Process Optimization
Refined machining control, with a focus on key dimensions of water-lubricated bearings, and the addition of internal process control standards have significantly improved component precision and dimensional consistency.
The upper thrust bearing adopts a new positioning fixture, eliminating traditional assembly deviations, avoiding collision damage to guide bearing pads, and steadily upgrading assembly quality.

In the next step, Harbin Electric Group will closely follow the national strategic deployment of "actively, safely, and orderly developing nuclear power," focus on its core business, steadily advance the batch delivery of nuclear power equipment, continuously promote the quality improvement and upgrading of China's nuclear power industry, and build a solid foundation for advancing the construction of a new-type power system.
