China's State Administration for Market Regulation stated on the 17th that China has made new progress in the field of international standards for quantum technology.

Quantum technology is one of the most promising cutting-edge technologies and has attracted widespread attention and emphasis from countries around the world. Recently, during the fifth plenary meeting of the International Organization for Standardization's Joint Technical Committee on Quantum Technology held in Jinan, Shandong Province, the international standard proposal "Overview and Analysis of Quantum Entropy Source Randomness Quality and Testing Methodology," led by China, was officially approved for project initiation, marking an important step for China in the development of international standards for core quantum devices.
Random numbers are widely used in fields such as cryptography, financial simulation, scientific computing, artificial intelligence, and quantum communication. A quantum random number generator is a system that generates random numbers based on the principles of quantum physics, with its randomness guaranteed by the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics, featuring unpredictability, non-repeatability, and unbiasedness. The quantum entropy source is the physical implementation component of the quantum process that generates random numbers and is the most essential characteristic distinguishing quantum random number generators from other random number generators.
According to reports, the industrialization of quantum random numbers has become increasingly mature, yet the quantum entropy source, as a key core component, lacks unified testing standards, which constrains the standardized development of the industry. This standard will provide an evaluation guide for quantum entropy sources, unify the testing and assessment criteria for quantum entropy sources, help the industry evaluate and judge the performance indicators of quantum random number generators, and support the standardized development of the quantum technology industry.
The State Administration for Market Regulation stated that, as a future industry, quantum technology is currently at a critical window period of transitioning from the "laboratory" to "industrialization," with rapid developments in technologies such as quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum precision measurement. Deep participation in the development of international standards helps break down technical barriers and accelerate the large-scale application of innovative achievements.
