With the successful commissioning of the first infill adjustment well in the Enping 24-2 Oilfield, China's first 100-meter water depth in-situ expansion platform for oil and gas has been officially put into operation, opening up a new path for tapping the potential and improving efficiency of mature offshore oilfields.

The in-situ expansion platform of the Enping 24-2 Oilfield, which has been put into operation this time, is located in the waters of the Pearl River Mouth Basin, approximately 200 kilometers southwest of Shenzhen, at an operating water depth of nearly 100 meters. The project adopts an innovative model of "in-situ installation of new modules on the existing platform." Without suspending production or restructuring the original production system, a brand-new operating platform is precisely installed, adding 12 new well slots and enabling the deployment of 16 adjustment wells, effectively resolving the development bottlenecks of saturated well slots and constrained production capacity on the original platform.

As a core producing main oilfield in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, the Enping 24-2 Oilfield has cumulatively produced over 12 million tonnes of crude oil since it came on stream in October 2014. After more than a decade of continuous development, the operating space and drilling well slots of the original production platform have become fully saturated, leaving a large amount of remaining oil and gas reserves unable to be effectively utilized.
In recent years, China's offshore oil and gas development has adhered to a strategy of advancing both new and existing projects. While promoting the construction of new projects, it has accelerated the transition toward improving quality and efficiency of existing assets, with tapping the potential of mature oilfields becoming an important pillar for stable offshore oil and gas production. The successful implementation of this 100-meter water depth in-situ expansion technology has further improved China's deepwater oil and gas development technology system, holding significant demonstrative importance for consolidating the foundation of stable offshore oil and gas production and enhancing the country's capacity for independent domestic energy security.
