Wedoany.com Report-Dec 02, Trenes Argentinos Cargas (TAC) has initiated the operation of its first six converted wagons as part of a project to adapt general standard box cars for grain transportation . The conversion initiative, carried out in collaboration with Cofco International, is designed to address increased demand for grain transport via rail.

Funding for the project comes from a joint commercial arrangement with Cofco International, which has contributed $2.3 million in freight advances. These funds are allocated for the wagon conversions and the development of a locomotive, intended to facilitate the movement of Cofco’s grain production.

The technical aspects of the conversion process are managed by Provisión Siderúrgica y Electromecánica SA, which manufactures modular conversion kits. Once assembled, the wagons are transferred to TAC’s workshops in San Cristóbal, Santa Fe, for adjustments to bogies and braking systems.

This project is one of several measures undertaken by TAC to address the growing logistical requirements of the agricultural sector. Additional activities include the procurement of new grain wagons for the Belgrano line, the adaptation of four locomotives, and the reallocation of wagons between the Urquiza and San Martín lines to optimize load capacities for specific operational needs.
