Wedoany.com Report on Mar 17th, Mexican airline Volaris has announced that it will launch a domestic route between Puerto Escondido and Tijuana starting June 2, operating three times weekly with Airbus A320 aircraft. The restoration of this route aims to support the growing demand for Pacific coast destinations, reconnecting Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) with northern Mexico and cross-border travel markets. Volaris previously operated this route until January 2024, and its resumption is part of efforts by airport operator Aeropuertos Mexicanos (AME) to enhance connectivity.

Puerto Escondido continues to develop as a tourist destination, with significant growth in passenger traffic. During the Routes Americas 2026 conference, AME's General Director, Javier García Bejos, stated, "Puerto Escondido as a destination has been thriving. Last year, we handled nearly 1 million passengers, compared to just 300,000 passengers during the initial operational phase in 2023." This growth has been driven by the expansion of international routes, including services from United Airlines from Houston, WestJet from Calgary, Air Canada from Toronto, and American Airlines from Dallas/Fort Worth, which have performed strongly since 2025 with load factors generally exceeding 80%.
García Bejos noted that demand from the U.S. market is particularly strong, especially from Texas, indicating further growth potential for Puerto Escondido. He said, "Traffic from Texas to Puerto Escondido is very strong—all flights are full, and we believe this is just the beginning." To accommodate the increasing traffic, the airport is undergoing expansion, including a new passenger terminal scheduled to open in October as part of a $200 million investment, aiming to increase annual capacity to over 3 million passengers in the first phase. García Bejos added, "With the new terminal and infrastructure, we can attract more passengers, international airlines, and routes."
