Wedoany.com Report on Mar 17th, The US liquefied natural gas producer Venture Global has received approval from the US Department of Energy to increase the export volume of its Plaquemines LNG terminal located south of New Orleans, Louisiana. This authorization permits an additional export of 45 million cubic feet per day of natural gas to non-free trade agreement countries, enhancing the overall export capacity.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that this authorization enables the Plaquemines LNG project to immediately increase its exports by 13%. Currently, the project is permitted to export a total of 385 million cubic feet per day of LNG to all countries. This move aims to support global natural gas supply.
The Plaquemines LNG facility began operations in December 2024, with export levels already exceeding 300 million cubic feet per day. This approval will directly increase LNG exports to non-free trade agreement countries, which are major importers of US LNG.
Kyle Haustveit, Assistant Secretary of the Office of Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy at the US Department of Energy, noted, "Our goal is to provide secure and reliable energy. I am pleased that through this action, we can immediately help boost the global LNG supply."
The US Department of Energy has approved LNG export authorizations exceeding 1.86 billion cubic feet per day, with further export growth expected in the coming years. As a key facility, the enhanced export capacity of Venture Global's Plaquemines LNG project will strengthen the United States' role in the global LNG market.
