en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 25th, Recently, the Kurchatov Institute, a Russian national research center, and the Leningrad Region government held a working meeting in Gatchina and formally signed a cooperation agreement in the field of nuclear medicine. According to the agreement, the two parties will collaborate to build a large-scale nuclear medicine center in Gatchina, aiming to enhance the level of oncology diagnosis and treatment in northwestern Russia and strengthen nuclear medicine infrastructure.

This project is a key medical initiative under the framework of Russia's "National Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development." The agreement content indicates that the nuclear medicine center will be constructed on the premises of the B.P. Konstantinov Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, a subsidiary of the Kurchatov Institute. It will integrate functions for radionuclide diagnosis, proton therapy, and medical isotope production. The center will primarily provide services for patients with head and neck tumors, with the oncology ophthalmology treatment center "OKO" having already commenced operations in 2025.
Mikhail Kovalchuk, Director of the Kurchatov Institute, stated: "The completion of this center will ensure widespread access to high-tech nuclear medicine treatments for residents of northwestern Russia." Alexander Drozdenko, Governor of the Leningrad Region, simultaneously announced that to support the development of the Gatchina science cluster, a specialized "Kurchatov School" will also be established to cultivate future scientific talent in the field of nuclear medicine.
This cooperation marks a significant step for Russia in strengthening its nuclear medicine infrastructure. It will help improve the accessibility of precision oncology treatment and also reflects a commitment to nurturing domestic talent.
