Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 8, Poland’s National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) has launched a program to co-finance electricity storage facilities, with applications opening on April 4, 2025. Backed by the country’s Modernisation Fund, the initiative carries a budget exceeding 4 billion zlotys ($1.02 billion). It aims to improve the stability of Poland’s power grid and enhance the use of renewable energy sources. The application window will close on May 30, 2025.

The initiative includes battery containers, inverters, transformers and the assembly of battery modules.

The program focuses on building electricity storage units with a minimum capacity of 2 megawatts (MW) and 4 megawatt hours (MWh). Eligible projects include battery containers, inverters, transformers, and battery module assembly, as well as testing and commissioning of the facilities. Additional options, such as network connections and warehouse setup, may also qualify for funding. Józef Matysiak, president of NFOŚiGW’s management board, said: “The construction of energy storage facilities is essential for the stabilisation of the power system and more efficient use of the growing production of energy from renewable sources. Support from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management is a huge opportunity for entrepreneurs who want to actively participate in the energy transformation while building the country’s energy security.”

Entrepreneurs, excluding those in the financial sector, can apply for support. The total funding of 4.15 billion zlotys is split into grants of up to 3.735 billion zlotys and loans up to 415 million zlotys. Grants can cover up to 45% of investment costs, with an extra 10% for medium-sized businesses and 20% for small ones. Loans, offered on either preferential or market terms, can fund up to 100% of eligible expenses. This financial support aims to encourage businesses to invest in energy storage solutions.

The initiative aligns with Poland’s broader efforts to strengthen its energy infrastructure. Recently, the country approved 60.2 billion zlotys for its first nuclear power plant, marking a significant step in diversifying its energy mix. The NFOŚiGW program complements this by promoting storage technologies that support renewable energy integration, ensuring a more reliable and sustainable power supply.

Applications will be evaluated based on project feasibility and alignment with national energy goals. The funding is expected to drive innovation and growth in Poland’s renewable energy sector, offering businesses a chance to contribute to a cleaner energy future while enhancing grid reliability.
