en.Wedoany.com Reported - Tesla has begun rolling out Full Self-Driving V14 Lite to older vehicles equipped with Hardware 3. The company has previously acknowledged that the hardware on these vehicles is insufficient to achieve fully autonomous driving without driver supervision.

Some early Tesla Full Self-Driving purchasers were told that their vehicles had all the necessary hardware for full autonomous driving. Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently admitted that the hardware on these vehicles actually falls short of requirements. The company plans to offer hardware retrofits for such vehicles in the future.

Before the hardware retrofits are implemented, Tesla software engineers are working to provide Hardware 3 vehicles with a Full Self-Driving experience similar to that of vehicles equipped with Hardware 4. Hardware 4 includes more cameras, as well as higher-performance cameras and computing units. Musk stated that Full Self-Driving V14 Lite will never achieve hands-free, eyes-off autonomous driving.

The full release notes for Full Self-Driving V14 Lite include: - Distilling the V14 intelligence from Hardware 4 to Hardware 3, enabling Hardware 3 to learn scene processing guided by Hardware 4, unlocking improvements such as reinforcement learning and offline models. - Improved active and passive response capabilities in scenarios such as navigation handling, merging and diverging, pedestrian interaction, traffic lights, and vehicle cut-ins. - Enhanced overall comfort in nominal scenarios by reducing unnecessary deceleration, smoother steering, and more consistent lane centering. - Introduced parking, pulling out of parking spots, and reversing functions. - Added arrival options for drivers to choose whether Full Self-Driving should park in a lot, on a street, within a lane, or at the curb. - Speed profiles are now always available to further customize driving style preferences.

Tesla's AI head, Ashok Elluswamy, added that Full Self-Driving V14 Lite is being rolled out to AI3 early access customers and will be pushed to more customers in the coming weeks based on feedback. This version distills the V14 series driving behavior from AI4 into the camera and computing configuration of AI3, including destination options and speed profiles on city roads, while significantly improving safety.
