en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 30, the Dabancheng Pumped Storage Power Station in Xinjiang officially commenced construction. The project has a planned total installed capacity of 1.4 million kilowatts. Once operational, it is expected to generate 1.983 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. It will primarily undertake tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, frequency regulation, phase modulation, and emergency standby for the Xinjiang power grid. This is of great significance for helping Xinjiang build a new power system and enhancing the region's capacity to absorb new energy.

Located on the Gaoyazi River in the Dabancheng District of Urumqi City, the project is approximately 85 kilometers in a straight line from the urban area of Urumqi and is invested and constructed by China Three Gorges Corporation. The project's hub engineering consists of an upper reservoir, a lower reservoir, and a water conveyance and power generation system. It plans to install 4 reversible units, each with a single-unit capacity of 350 megawatts. The station will achieve peak shaving and valley filling for the power grid through the process of "pumping water for energy storage and releasing water for power generation." The Xinjiang Dabancheng Pumped Storage Power Station features prominent advantages such as being close to the load center, having significant complementary benefits with new energy, and offering convenient conditions for power transmission.

The total investment for the project is 10.51 billion yuan, with a construction period estimated at 72 months. After the project is put into operation, it is expected to save approximately 705,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.75 million tons annually.

At the mobilization meeting, China Three Gorges Corporation briefed attendees on the project preparation status. Relevant leaders from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Urumqi City, responsible officials from relevant central enterprises, as well as representatives from the Dabancheng District Government and design, supervision, construction, and development units participated in the meeting.
