en.Wedoany.com Reported - Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Japan's INPEX Corporation have signed a 15-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply contract, delivering 1 million tons annually from the Ruwais LNG project. ADNOC's press office announced the news.
This agreement is the first long-term LNG contract signed by ADNOC and XRG following the launch of their integrated LNG marketing and trading platform. The contract brings the project's long-term commitments to over 90% of its 9.6 million tons per year capacity, with nearly 23% reserved by Japanese buyers.
Nasser Al-Muhairi, Acting Director of Processing, Marketing, and Trading at ADNOC and Chairman of Ruwais LNG, noted that the agreement strengthens the energy partnership between the UAE and Japan, promotes project development, and confirms its market appeal. Under ADNOC and XRG's strategy to produce 47 million tons of LNG by 2035, Ruwais LNG will become a key source of reliable, low-carbon supply for the Asia-Pacific region and other markets.
The plant will be the first in the Middle East and Africa to operate using clean energy. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2028. In the same year, ADNOC Gas plans to increase its stake in the project to 60%, which will double current LNG capacity to approximately 15 million tons per year.
