Morocco Sets Ambitious 5G Goals as Part of Maroc Digital 2030 Initiative

Wedoany.com Report-May 4, Morocco is preparing to launch its 5G network, aiming to cover 25% of its population by the end of 2025 and 70% by 2030, as part of the Maroc Digital 2030 program. The National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) announced that the rollout will begin in November 2025, focusing initially on urban centers, industrial zones, technology parks, and innovation hubs to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure.

The 5G deployment aligns with Morocco’s hosting of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) football tournament, expected to draw millions of visitors. To support this event, the ANRT is finalizing new specifications for telecom operators, emphasizing robust coverage and high service quality. The agency stated: “These specifications include specific commitments regarding coverage and service quality to ensure that the event is well-supported by robust connectivity.”

In March 2025, Maroc Telecom and Inwi formed two joint ventures to bolster telecommunications infrastructure, aligning with the Maroc Digital 2030 strategy of resource pooling and co-investment. The FiberCo venture plans to install one million optical fiber sockets within two years and three million within five years. The TowerCo initiative aims to build 2,000 mobile towers in three years and 6,000 over a decade. These efforts are backed by an initial investment of 4.4 billion Moroccan dirhams (approximately $475 million) for the first three years.

The collaborative ventures reflect Morocco’s commitment to expanding digital connectivity and supporting economic growth through advanced telecommunications. The FiberCo project will enhance high-speed internet access, while TowerCo will increase mobile network coverage, particularly in underserved areas. A Maroc Telecom representative noted: “This collaborative approach aligns with the Maroc Digital 2030 strategy, which emphasizes the importance of pooling resources and co-investing in infrastructure.”
