en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 11, Pakistan's National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) launched a solar infrastructure deployment plan, installing photovoltaic power generation systems at its communication exchanges, data centers, office premises, and operational facilities across Pakistan. The project has completed contract signing and will proceed to system design, equipment installation, and phased construction, focusing on improving the energy reliability of communication facilities and reducing long-term electricity costs.
The project is implemented under a "Build-Own-Operate-Transfer" model. A consortium comprising Pakistan's Kasib Builders and Developers, Zeeruk International, and Zeeruk Energy Development will undertake project financing, engineering design, photovoltaic system installation, and subsequent operation and maintenance. After the concession period ends, the completed solar facilities will be transferred to NTC in their entirety.
The scope of this project covers not ordinary commercial buildings, but infrastructure nodes carrying communication and data services. Communication exchanges and data centers require continuous power supply to maintain the operation of network equipment, servers, storage systems, and supporting facility rooms. By constructing distributed photovoltaic systems at designated sites, NTC plans to add new energy sources to the existing telecommunications network, reducing the impact of electricity price fluctuations and unstable power supply on daily operations.
According to the currently announced plan, the consortium will configure photovoltaic equipment based on the building conditions, power loads, and available space at different sites, and will be responsible for maintenance after the systems are operational. The project parties have not yet disclosed the initial construction locations, the number of covered sites, total photovoltaic installed capacity, energy storage system configuration, or overall completion timeline. Therefore, it cannot be described as a completed solar transformation of the national communication facilities.
Pakistan NTC primarily provides telecommunications and information technology infrastructure services to government departments and public institutions. This plan directly deploys solar facilities at communication exchanges, data centers, and operational sites, extending the construction scope from simply expanding network equipment to ensuring the energy support systems for continuous network operation. As the project is implemented in phases, Pakistan's existing telecommunications infrastructure will form a power supply system jointly supported by the grid and on-site photovoltaics.
