en.Wedoany.com Reported - Rice farming company Herba Ricemills (a subsidiary of the Ebro Foods Group) has partnered with warehouse technology and intralogistics software company Mecalux to build an automated warehouse at its facility in San José de la Rinconada, Spain, to support its business expansion into African and Middle Eastern markets.
Manuel Matías Martínez, head of warehouse logistics management at Herba Ricemills, stated that the company's goal is to achieve technological upgrades to enhance operational efficiency and reliability. The facility has deployed an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) designed by Mecalux, incorporating an automated pallet shuttle system and Easy WMS warehouse management software, resulting in a 25% increase in productivity.
The facility primarily produces ready-to-eat rice products and supplies multiple brands to different markets: shipping Minute brand products to North America, Lassie brand products to the Netherlands, and selling Brillante brand products in the domestic Spanish market.
By utilizing electric shuttles that automatically load and unload pallets within the racks, the facility's inbound and outbound processes have been accelerated. Thanks to more efficient use of available space, Herba Ricemills can now store up to 5,400 pallets. Additionally, the facility is equipped with a semi-automated pallet shuttle racking system, which is particularly suitable for handling large volumes of pallets with the same SKU.
