en.Wedoany.com Reported - Network solutions provider Cambium Networks announced that its enterprise-grade Wi-Fi access points have been deployed to the International Space Station (ISS), supporting in-cabin wireless connectivity for crew operations, scientific experiment payloads, and daily communications between astronauts and their families on Earth.

These access points were delivered to the ISS via a SpaceX Commercial Resupply Services mission (NASA's CRS-30) and installed in the Node 1 (Unity) and Node 2 (Harmony) modules. The solution replaces the previous generation of 802.11n access points, providing a wireless backbone for nearly all networked activities on the station, delivering higher performance and capacity, and managed through Cambium's centralized network management system, cnMaestro X.

The network can support up to 12 crew members as well as dozens of operational, Internet of Things (IoT), and personal devices. Astronauts use the technology throughout the day, including tablets used while floating through modules, as well as phones, laptops, robots, and other devices.

Prior to deployment, these access points completed a rigorous certification and evaluation process that began over two years ago. Testing included radiation and heavy ion exposure to confirm that the equipment could meet NASA's requirements for safe and reliable operation in the space environment.

Morgan Kurk, CEO of Cambium Networks, stated that the most demanding environment for a network is space, and Cambium Networks Wi-Fi provides connectivity for ISS crew members. The same enterprise-grade technology trusted by schools, hospitals, and businesses worldwide is now validated over 250 miles above Earth.
