en.Wedoany.com Reported - Microsoft and 3M have announced a strategic partnership to enhance AI data center infrastructure. The collaboration will leverage Microsoft's strengths in digital and hyperscale infrastructure, along with 3M's expertise in materials science and manufacturing, to accelerate the adoption of AI technologies. Microsoft Azure will be the first hyperscale cloud provider to implement 3M's Expanded Beam Optical (EBO) technology, designed to improve fiber optic connections within data centers. EBO technology enables faster fiber optic connection installation and easier maintenance, reduces the frequency of cleaning and inspection, while maintaining reliable optical performance in dense environments.

Cliff Henson, Corporate Vice President of Cloud Supply Chain and Engineering at Microsoft, stated that 3M's EBO solution will enhance performance, reliability, and efficiency, enabling customers to run cloud and AI workloads in a sustainable and advanced environment. Deploying EBO technology in Azure data centers is expected to streamline network deployment timelines and improve signal performance, particularly in scenarios involving common dust exposure and routine operations during installation and maintenance.

In addition to the technical collaboration, the two companies have jointly developed a workflow driven by an AI assistant that facilitates credit checks, overdue assessments, and system updates, incorporating human-machine collaborative controls for real-time visibility and approval. This initiative aims to reduce manual workload, allowing 3M employees to focus on higher-value tasks, thereby improving process speed and cash flow.

3M plans to expand the production capacity of EBO technology to meet the growing demand from data center operators for enhanced AI infrastructure. The partnership will focus on areas where 3M's materials science can respond to changes in data center requirements for reliability, deployment speed, density, and long-term scalability. Jon Van Wyck, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at 3M, expressed excitement about deepening the collaboration to develop practical solutions that create shared value.
