en.Wedoany.com Reported - Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) plans to invest Rs 12.74 billion (Rs 12.74 bn) to install platform screen doors at 177 stations across its existing and upcoming network to enhance safety levels. The proposal has been included in the Phase 3A detailed project report, which covers a total of 191 stations, with 14 stations already having provisions for installation, including 12 underground stations on the Pink Line and two stations on the Airport Line.

The report states that screen doors improve passenger comfort by reducing wind and noise in the platform area, help enhance air conditioning efficiency in underground stations, and enable more precise dwell time management through integration with signaling systems and automatic train supervision systems.

BMRCL estimates the procurement cost for the retrofit project at Rs 7.47 billion (Rs 7.47 bn), civil works at Rs 3.17 billion (Rs 3.17 bn), and signaling, communication, and electrical modifications at Rs 2.10 billion (Rs 2.10 bn). The company stated that retrofitting stations already in operation is far more complex than installing systems during station construction, primarily due to limited nighttime construction windows, the need to modify existing platforms, significant system integration challenges, and extensive testing requirements.

It is reported that the detailed project report complies with the domestic procurement guidelines of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and BMRCL has conducted technical and commercial discussions with a public sector electronics company.
