en.Wedoany.com Reported - The ventilation and safety tunnel of the Jiangxi Xunwu Pumped Storage Power Station has been successfully completed, marking the project's official transition into the main construction phase. Located in Guizhumao Town, Xunwu County, this station is a key implementation project under the national "Pumped Storage Medium and Long-Term Development Plan" during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and it is also the first pumped storage project invested and constructed by China Three Gorges Corporation in Jiangxi Province.
The 1,358.6-meter-long ventilation and safety tunnel serves as the core passage for the underground powerhouse's ventilation system and personnel safety evacuation, undertaking dual functions of excavation transportation, ventilation and smoke exhaust during the construction period, and personnel safety evacuation during the operation period. The tunnel's entrance is located approximately 370 meters southeast of the lower reservoir inlet/outlet, with its body connecting multiple branch points such as the lower adit of the exhaust shaft, the main transformer exhaust tunnel, and the upper drainage gallery, featuring a complex structure and dense construction points.

According to You Jiaxing, Director of the Engineering Management Department of Jiangxi Xunwu Pumped Storage Co., Ltd., during the preliminary construction, Class IV surrounding rock accounted for 30% of the total, higher than the designed 20%, with significant water seepage inside the tunnel. The ventilation and safety tunnel commenced construction on July 28, 2025. The contractor, China Anneng First Engineering Bureau Hefei Branch, and the project owner, China Three Gorges Construction Engineering Corporation, adopted advanced geological prediction technology throughout the process, following standardized construction guidelines of "short footage, strong support, rapid closure, and frequent measurement," and implemented a two-shift continuous operation and assembly line cyclic construction mode.

To address issues such as limited site space, poor surrounding rock stability, and frequent underground water inflow, the project team established a comprehensive quality and safety management system. During construction, safety was prioritized, with timely support installation, drainage of seepage water, and 24-hour dedicated personnel on duty.
The project construction has received active support from local residents. He Huanming, a villager from Huaxing Village, Guizhumao Town, stated that after the project was implemented, the community actively cooperated with the construction team to solve problems, and any issues could be addressed by the town's special work team. Guizhumao Town established a dedicated task force to provide full-process follow-up and proactive services. Town Party Secretary Sun Xiaowei explained that the task force regularly visits villages to carry out land measurement, physical asset verification, policy promotion, and compensation payment, promptly addressing issues related to construction land, access roads, and construction disputes, ensuring comprehensive support for construction conditions.

The Jiangxi Xunwu Pumped Storage Power Station has a planned total installed capacity of 1,200 MW, equipped with four reversible pump-turbine units each with a capacity of 300 MW, and a designed annual power generation of 1.51 billion kWh. Upon completion, the project will undertake functions such as peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency regulation, phase modulation, and emergency backup for the power system in southern Jiangxi, thereby enhancing the stability of the regional power grid and the integration capacity of new energy.
