en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Lambayeque region of Peru is advancing the Puerto Eten Port Terminal project (Terminal Portuario de Puerto Eten) and its associated industrial park, aiming to transform the area into a new logistics hub on the Pacific coast. This proposal was put forward by Regional Governor Jorge Pérez during the strategic meeting "Peru's Northern Corridor: Puerto Eten and the Logistics Transformation of Northern Peru."
The project, with an initial investment of over $600 million, plans to build a port covering 740 hectares with a water depth of 15 to 16 meters, aiming to position Lambayeque as an industrial and logistics hub with continental influence. Pérez stated that the project has obtained temporary technical feasibility certification and water area usage permits from the General Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guards of Peru (Dirección General de Capitanías y Guardacostas del Perú, Dicapi), and the master plan has been approved.
Within the Macro Regional Industrial Park (Parque Industrial Macro Regional) located in the Pampas de Reque, 3,000 hectares of land have been legally cleared and registered with the National Superintendency of Public Registries (Superintendencia Nacional de los Registros Públicos, Sunarp). This park will house industrial zones, a technology park, a logistics center, and the Quiñones Wind Power Project (Proyecto Eólico Quiñones).
Pérez emphasized that this project is not a concept or an idea, but a mature initiative that has undergone legal clearance and enjoys legal protection. He noted that the project integrates the logistics supply of the northeast with a holistic perspective and has constructed a strategic road and waterway network, connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans via the Peru-Brazil Bi-Oceanic Corridor (Corredor Bioceánico Perú – Brasil). The planned regional road network includes the Sun Highway (Autopista del Sol), the Eastern Ring Road (Circunvalación Este), the modernization of IIRSA Norte (Northern Integration Highway) (the 1,000-kilometer northern corridor road to Yurimaguas), the new Chiclayo-Pomalca Highway, the Gran Chimú Oval Viaduct (Viaducto Óvalo Gran Chimú), and access roads to the José Abelardo Quiñones International Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional José Abelardo Quiñones).
At the regional level, the plan is also supported by a co-financed private initiative accepted by the Private Investment Promotion Agency of Peru (ProInversión) for dredging works on the Huallaga River (río Huallaga). This North Amazon Waterway (hidrovía Noramazónica) project will resume commercial navigation from Yurimaguas to Manaus (Manaos) and Tabatinga in Brazil, and connect mining areas in northern Peru such as Michiquillay, La Granja, Galeno, and Cañariaco. To support port activities, the regional government has also proposed using reverse osmosis desalinated water and establishing an industrial park for tailings treatment.
The timeline for the Multipurpose Port Terminal of Puerto Eten (Terminal Portuario Multipropósito de Puerto Eten) indicates that the project will obtain final technical feasibility certification in 2026, water usage rights permits in 2027, construction permits in 2028, and is planned to commence commercial operations in 2030. Through tax engineering, the region has invested approximately $270 million in road infrastructure. Authorities expect that this new logistics platform will reduce industry operating costs by at least 10%, thereby enhancing competitiveness in foreign trade.
