This railway branch line connects Paranaguá to Ortigueira, Cambé, and Cascavel, regions that are important production and export hubs for chicken, pulp, and paper. With the installation of a third railway line, the capacity for transporting fully loaded containers by rail will increase from 55,000 containers per year to approximately 66,000. Fabio Mattos, Commercial Manager at TCP, stated that this will significantly enhance service efficiency for customers in these regions.
Vinicius Cordeiro, Executive Manager of Sales and New Business at Brado Logística, believes that the completion of the project marks a new phase for logistics in Paraná, expanding the possibilities for producers to connect with domestic and international markets. As a multimodal transport operator, Brado's role is to transform this structure into concrete solutions, supporting operational growth and expanding access to more efficient and sustainable logistics. This evolution is particularly important for the state's agribusiness and industrial sectors, which require alternatives that can keep pace with production growth and reach increasingly distant markets. By strengthening railway integration, it helps enhance the competitiveness of Paraná's products, providing greater efficiency and predictability in the production process.
TCP is the only port terminal in the southern region of the country whose operating area is directly connected to a railway branch line. With this expansion completed, the terminal now has a third railway line and a new shunting yard, adding a total of 757 meters of track. Previously, the terminal operated two lines, allowing simultaneous loading and unloading of 41 containers per train during entry and exit. With the new line and shunting yard, two trains can operate simultaneously while a third train departs.
The completion of the project has also changed vehicle traffic patterns. Under the previous model, trains arriving in Paranaguá with 82 cars had to be split into two smaller trains to cross the level crossing on Avenida Portuária, causing both trains and vehicles to stop twice. Now, a single train can travel continuously at full capacity, reducing the frequency of level crossing crossings and ensuring continuous passage at reduced speed, avoiding the prolonged track blockages seen previously.
The railway network expansion is part of a series of investments by TCP to strengthen logistics infrastructure. Over the past five years, the company has invested approximately 500 million Brazilian reais in operational improvements and capacity enhancement at the terminal. To accommodate increased rail traffic, the area has begun operating three RTG cranes, one more than before. These cranes have been electrified, with conductor rails installed along the railway lines, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 771 tons per year during operation. TCP has also invested in mobilizing new terminal tractors to optimize railway operations and has made modifications to the terminal gates. The expansion also includes Brado Logística's investment in strategic assets and components for implementing the new railway infrastructure.
