en.Wedoany.com Reported - The preparatory forum for the Tropic of Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor (Corredor Bioceánico Capricornio, CBC) at the subnational territorial level will be held from August 3 to 5 in Tocopilla, Chile, with representatives from eight subnational territories in attendance. The corridor initiative aims to strengthen economic, logistical, and territorial cooperation among four national jurisdictions.
The forum is organized by the Regional Government of Antofagasta (Gobierno Regional de Antofagasta), the Municipality of Tocopilla (Ilustre Municipalidad de Tocopilla), and the Municipality of San Pedro de Atacama (Municipalidad de San Pedro de Atacama). Participating delegations come from the provinces of Salta and Jujuy in Argentina, the regions of Tarapacá and Antofagasta in Chile, the state of Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil, and the Paraguayan Chaco (Chaco paraguayo), in addition to other subnational territories that make up the corridor.

Ricardo Díaz Cortés, Governor of the Antofagasta Region, stated that this preparatory forum marks the first time international delegations will come together, advancing issues such as tourism, security, and indigenous participation. The Bioceanic Corridor has already achieved concrete progress, and the current challenge lies in improving infrastructure and coordinating efforts to bring greater development, investment, and opportunities to the region.
August 3 will feature delegation receptions, a meeting of territorial coordinators, and a welcome dinner; August 4 will include the official opening ceremony at the Andrés Pérez Theater (Teatro Andrés Pérez), an international tourism seminar, and panel discussions with the eight participating territories, along with a tourism committee meeting, a multicultural gastronomic showcase, and cultural integration activities; August 5 will focus on tourism and foreign trade with technical visits, business presentations, and networking sessions for regional stakeholders. San Pedro de Atacama will host the second preparatory forum, where committees on security and organized crime, gender, citizen participation, and indigenous affairs will convene in preparation for the Eighth Forum of Subnational Territories (VIII Foro de los Territorios Subnacionales).
During the forum, Tocopilla will present the conceptual study for the Remanso Sector (Sector Remanso). This study is part of a pre-feasibility analysis aimed at promoting the development of the Port of Tocopilla and consolidating its position as a strategic logistics node within the Bioceanic Corridor.
Ljubica Kurtovic Cortés, Mayor of Tocopilla, stated that the city is honored to host this preparatory forum and welcome the delegations. Local authorities have prepared welcome activities to showcase the municipality's potential and will take this opportunity to present the conceptual study for the Remanso Sector, opening new opportunities for Tocopilla's development.
This preparatory forum further consolidates Tocopilla's role as a convergence point for territorial integration and positions the Antofagasta Region as a strategic hub for bioceanic connectivity. The region has the potential to attract investment in port infrastructure, logistics, and specialized services targeting South American markets.
