en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Prime Minister of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, has proposed a "National Pact to Address the Climate Emergency" to open a new political cycle. This inaugural event was held at the headquarters of the ministry led by Sara Aagesen.

To pave the way for this pact, Sánchez established the Interministerial Commission on Climate Change and Energy Transition (Comisión Interministerial para el Cambio Climático y la Transición Energética). The commission held its first meeting at the Moncloa Complex (Complejo de la Moncloa) ahead of the most recent Council of Ministers meeting. The commission is now operational, aiming to ensure that public policies are properly managed during the transition toward a more ecological production and social model.

During her visit this week to the National Prediction Center of the State Meteorological Agency (Agencia Estatal de Meteorología, Aemet), Sara Aagesen called for "coordination and solidarity" in response to "tragedies such as wildfires." Referring to the content of the pact, she expressed confidence that "the rural component and the demographic challenge component will be an indispensable variable." When asked whether more resources and professionals are needed to address wildfires, Aagesen stressed that "they must be specialized personnel" and advocated for "enhancing professional dignity" through "better training and working conditions."

Given that wildfires have ravaged much of Spain this summer, with record temperatures recorded in several regions, Sánchez believes it is necessary to "adjust and redefine all aspects related to climate change mitigation and adaptation." He stated that this is something "that institutions and the rest of society must undertake together," emphasizing that "we are all affected by this climate emergency." He called for "commitments that transcend legislative terms" so that the climate emergency and related policies become matters of state policy.
